We can now provide modern copies of old Ordnance Survey maps of many places in Cumberland - at scales including one inch to the mile (mostly 1880 New Series, first edition), six inches to the mile (1867 or later editions) and 25 inches to the mile (mostly 1901 edition).

One inch to the mile, New Series, c1880
Sheet No 17 - Solway Plain, including Abbeytown, Oulton, Dundraw, Thursby, Dalston, Skinburness, Newton Arlosh & the Solway coast to and including Carlisle.
Sheet No 18 - The Irthing Valley - a continuation eastwards wards from Sheet 17 - from the eastern suburbs of Carlisle as far as the River South Tyne, including Brampton (approximately in the centre), Wetheral, Newbiggin, Kirkhaugh, Gilsland, etc.
Sheet No 24 - The Eden Valley - a continuation southwards from Sheet 18 as far as and including Penrith. Also included are Greystoke to Southwaite (west of the Eden), Culgaith & Milburn to Ainstable & Croglin
Sheet No 30 - Shap - a continuation southwards from Sheet 24, including Appleby on the eastern edge and most of Ullswater on the western edge.
Sheet No 39 - The Kent Valley - a continuation southwards from Sheet 30, including Kendal near the south edge, Bowness  and Windermere villages on the western edge and the Shap Wells Hotel to the north.
